A bit about Bondi
Originally an aboriginal settlement, Bondi officially became a suburb when the newly formed Waverley municipality (est. 1859), divided the then suburb into three wards; Bondi, Waverley and Hunter, with a fourth added a little later – Lawson.

In 1809, General Bligh gave the first ever land grant in Bondi to William Roberts, a parcel totalling 81 hectares – pretty much the entire current residential and business district of today's Bondi Beach.

When the eastern suburbs railway to Bondi Junction was completed in 1979, the area took off as a thriving commercial precinct and is now a major public transport interchange, with buses and trains to the CBD and Circular Quay.

Bondi is primarily a high density housing area, with the 2006 Census reporting that 72.5% of all dwellings in Bondi were flats and only 14.4% were detached dwellings, with 11.0% semi-detached homes, terraces, townhouses, etc.

Reflected in the large proportion of flats in the suburbs is the fact that Bondi is a popular rental spot for young singles and couples, with 43.3% of all dwellings being tenanted.
